Shades (27 in total)

These are the grey, naked, crouched over people who have a bright aura around them.

#1 Shores of Acheron (Pontius Pilate) - Sitting to the left of the demon door. Cannot be missed!

#2 Shores of Acheron (Orpheus) - Sitting right in front of the demon wall. Cannot be missed!

#3 Limbo (Electra) - After you have killed Charon you will come across the poet by a demon door. Head through there and out onto a balcony to find Electra.

#4 Lust (Francesca da Polenta) - You can’t miss her. She is on the pathway after you are done swinging on the ropes. - ABSOLVE FOR PART #1 OF THE ACHIEVEMENT.

#5 Lust (Paolo Malatesta) - Once the circle platform has reached the top, head to the right and down the skeletal ladder to find Paolo. - ABSOLVE FOR PART #2 OF THE ACHIEVEMENT.

#6 Lust (Semiramis) - There is a climbable wall near the save point. Climb to the top and you will find Semiramis.

#7 Gluttony (Ciacco) - Just to the left of the save point before you head out of a mouth.

#8 Gluttony (Clodia) - She can be found just after you save the game. Just look in the mouth on the left that opens after you get rid of the enemies flying outside. You can’t miss her, but keep your eyes open!

#9 Greed (Tarpeia) - This one is a bit difficult! You need to get to the top of the right set of clogs and double jump to the top of the left set of clogs. From there you need to double jump to the one single cog that is half sticking out of the wall. Move as far right on that clog as you can (so you’re right in front of the vertical cog) and then  jump outwards and then jump again to the right. Dante should then hang onto the ledge so you can pull yourself up.

#10 Greed (Gessius Florus) - You have to flip the switch that will stop the moving spike. Gessius is to the platform on the right so just double jump to get there.

#11 Greed (Fulvia) - Pretty unmissable, just left of the next save point, by a mana and health fountain.

#12 Anger (Boudica) - You will come across a breakable wall after you talk to the poet. Break it carefully jump over the gap to reach Boudica.

#13 Anger (Hebuca) - She can be found just to the right of the switch in the room with the lift.

#14 Anger (Filippo Argenti) - He is just to the left of the next save point.

#15 Heresy (Emperor Frederick II) - When you’re on the rope, moving across, you’ll see the Emperor below you with a mana and health fountain nearby. Just drop down!

#16 Heresy (Cavalcante De Cavalcanti) - He is right in front of the climbable wall just after you have finished with the fire puzzle

#17 Heresy (Farinata) - She is hidden on a ledge at the top of the room with the moving platforms.

#18 Violence (Attila) - When you’re on the rope, move past the bull head and you will come across Attila and a demon dog.

#19 Violence (Pietro Della Vigna) - Cannot be missed. He is right in the middle of a pathway.

#20 Violence (Brunetto Latini ) - He is on the ruined platforms when you come to the deserted camp. He is right next to a fountain. - ABSOLVE FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT.

#21 Violence (Guido Guerra) - Hard to miss, he is just to the left of the pathway - Just be careful when jumping across!

#22 Fraud (Thias the Harlot) - Cannot be missed. She is just before the first trial you do, up on a platform to the right.

#23 Fraud (Tiresias) - Just after the third trial on the pathway, can’t be missed.

#24 Fraud (Myrrha) - After the ninth trial, cannot be missed.

#25 Treachery (Fra Albergio) - You can’t miss this one, just to the right of the next save point.

#26 Treachery (Mordred) - At the top of the second skeletal ladder you will find Mordred on a ledge in-between two fountains.

#27 Treachery (Count Ugolino) - Another easy one, he is right next to the save point before the final boss! Whoo!

Relics (31 in total)

These can be found by talking to the poet (Note: You must talk to him repeatedly until he disappears to get the relic!), defeating bosses and absolving demon dogs.

#1 Shores of Acheron (Death Blade) - Talk to Virgil until the end of the conversation and you will get this relic automatically.

#2 Shores of Acheron (Charon’s Oar) - After the cutscene with Charon where the rope you’re on gets cut. Move to the right on the wall of dead before heading up. It’s another demon dog.

#3 Limbo (Eyes of St. Lucia) - After you’ve defeated Charon you will come across his head. Walk past it and you will see a demon dog and a fountain. Absolve the demon dog and this relic is yours.

#4 Limbo (Lord’s Blessing) - Talk to Virgil standing next to a demon door. He will give you this relic once the conversation ends.

#5 Limbo (Saladin’s Mercy) - This one is easy to miss. Before you head over  to the boss with the tentacles you need to activate a switch to the left which will move a large statue in the middle, revealing another demon dog. Absolve it and get the relic. If you’re unsure of where the switch is, it’s in the room with the statue, just move right to the left hand side of the room and you’ll see the switch high up on a platform. It’s easy to get to.

#6 Limbo (Tail of Minos) - You can’t miss this one. Kill the boss and to obtain this relic.

#7 Lust (Francesca’s Book) - This one might take a few attempts to get right. When you find yourself on the second swinging rope you need to try and get onto the climbable skeletal ladders (there are two). Double jump off of the rope and grab onto the ladder. Climb to the top and absolve the demon dog.

#8 Lust (Filipo’s Rage) - Another one that is east to miss. When you get onto the platform with the rotating arrows, head to the second statue on the left and drop down onto a climbable wall, move to the far right and absolve the demon dog.

#9 Lust (Tristan’s Desire) - Talk to Virgil the next time you see him for this relic.

#10 Lust (Arrow of Paris) - This is just by Semiramis (the shade). Drop down right by him to find a demon dog on a small platform. Absolve it for this relic.

#11 Lust (Antony’s Standard) - You can’t miss this one, just defeat the boss.

#12 Gluttony (Rain of Gluttony) - After the save point, head to the far right on the rope to a demon dog. Absolve as usual.

#13 Gluttony (Azrael’s Apprentice) - Can’t miss this one, just kill the boss.

#14 Gluttony (Ciacco’s Bile) - Talk toVirgil just after you enter the mouth for this relic.

#15 Gluttony (Octavian’s Gold) - This is after the mirror room. You need to climb up a skeletal ladder to reach a demon dog and a fountain. The relic is, of course, in the dog after you absolve it!

#16 Greed (Crown of Carthage) - This can be found by absolving a demon dog. It’s hidden away so it’s very easily missed! You need to drop down on the ledge that you’re on just before you hit the mana/health fountains in the alcove on the far right. Drop so Dante is holding onto the ledge and keep moving until you find the hidden area.

#17 Greed (Demon’s Wing) - This is in the room with the “spikes” that drop down from the ceiling after you pull the switch in the middle of the room. You need to jump on the right part of the “spike” thing and onto a ledge BEFORE you leave this area.

#18 Greed (Wasted Gold) - Another demon dog one. This is in the room with the cage in the middle. Once you flip the switch the cage will open, so head over and absolve that doggy!

#19 Greed (Coin of Plutus) - Once you’ve finished talk to Virgil, just move along the wall and drop down behind the fence to another demon dog.

#20 Greed (Eye of Alighierd) - Simply beat the boss for this relic!

#21 Greed (Hoarder’s Purse) - After you’ve beaten the boss just head to the left and jump up on the ledge there to see another demonic doggy!

#22 Anger (Medusa’s Call) - Have another chat with Virgil and he’ll give you this relic once you’re done.

#23 Anger (Guiding Flame) - Jump on the platforms just to the right of the poet and you’ll come across another demon dog to absolve.

#24 Heresy (Rage of Farintha) - The Virgil will give this to you once you’ve finished chatting to him.

#25 Heresy (Calvanti’s Blade) - Just behind Virgil is a climbable wall - Simple climb it, move to the right and you will see a demon dog.

#26 Heresy (Seal of Epicurius) - Jump on top of the moving platforms to another alcove with a demon dog that needs absolving. It is on the right side of the screen.

#27 Heresy (Frederik’s Ring) - Just before you enter the section of the game where the icicles drop from above there are two fountains side by side to the right of the screen. Just in front of the fountains is a skeletal ladder - Simply climb down it for this relic.

#28 Violence (Shoe of Nessus) - Move along the rope, past the bull head and you’ll see a shade and a demon dog. Absolve the dog for this relic.

#29 Violence (Attilla’s Armor) - When you find yourself on the second platform that has waves of fire, use the skeletal ladder to climb down the side until you see a climbable wall. Shimmy to the far right and you’ll come across a hidden area with another demon dog.

#30 Violence (Memory of Acre) - As you continue down the pathway you will come to two structures that need climbing. On the right is a fountain, just jump to the left one and there is another demon dog to absolve.

#31 Violence (Francesco’s Forgiveness) - Simply defeat the boss.

Beatrice Stones (3 in total)

#1 Limbo - This is found after you’ve defeated Charon. Walk pass Charon’s head (ignore the demon door for now) and you will come across a Demon Dog (a relic) and a fountain. The first stone is found in that fountain.

#2 Gluttony - This can be found in the mirror maze and can be a pain in the bum to get. It is in the fountain in the lower right hand part of the maze. You need to jump onto that moving platform and as it moves down to the middle of the screen you have to double jump to the right to land on the platform.

#3 Greed - You need a bit of skill to get this one as it involves a rather trick double jump. Jump onto the ledge opposite a mana/health potion in an alcove on the left. Then double jump towards the barely visable platform that is juuuust underneath a little arch in front of you. It is awkward to get to so keep trying! It took me three attempts to get it.

Coins (30 pieces)

These are always found in the orange fountains.

#1 Shores of Acheron - Jump up by the ledge after you first talk to the poet and receive the Death Blade relic from him. The fountain holds the coin.

#2 Shores of Acheron - When you’re on the platform that you have to move up by rotating the control in the center of it you will see the breakable door in front of you. Keep rotating the control and on the left of the screen you will see a fountain on a ledge. Coin is in there.

#3 Shores of Acheron - When you come to the large statue with the rope attached, walk behind it on the left to see the fountain holding the coin.

#4 Shores of Acheron - In the room with the small crate that you can move, bring it to the far left of the room in the middle and climb ontop of it to a ledge with a fountain.

#5 Limbo - Just before you reach Charon’s head lying on the floor, there is a little doorway on the left that is easy to miss. Go through the doorway and there is a fountain on the left to crack open.

#6 Lust - The fountain can be found at the top of the second rope, on a ledge.

#7 Lust - When you’re on the platform with the rotating arrows, go to the third statue on the left and you will see a fountain.

#8 Lust - When you’re on the circular platform, move the statue so it can hold the platform still. Flick the switch on the bottom level, jump back onto the circular platform and then jump to the fountain on the left hand side. (And just a helpful tip - To move onto the next bit of the game, do the above with the statue/switch and then move to the far right side of the screen, flick the second switch and very quickly jump back onto the platform so you move up with it!)

#9 Lust - When you come to the next save point, move to the left of the platform and jump to another ledge on the left. There is a fountain hidden there.

#10 Gluttony - Just after you kill the Cerberus boss, walk up the platform and you will see a fountain on the left of the pathway. Pretty unmissable.

#11 Gluttony - This can be found in the mirror maze and is very difficult to miss, it is to the right of one of the switches.

#12 Gluttony - Climb up the skeletal ladder to reach this fountain, is it right next to a demon dog.

#13 Greed - When you come across a mana/health fountain next to each other in a small alcove then move to the right and jump onto a ledge opposite. Now double jump to another platform on the left, then jump back (towards you, the gamer) to another platform with a fountain on it.

#14 Greed - Right next to the switch that opens up the door with the huge spikes on it.

#15 Greed - Drop down onto the floor in the room with the demon dog in the middle of it and the rotating spike thingy, a fountain can be found on the far right of the room.

#16 Greed - Climb the wall behind Virgil, move to the right and drop behind a cage door for this fountain.

#17 Greed - Just after your talk with Virgil you’ll come to a room with a circle platform and a switch around a corner. The second fountain on the way to the switch holds the coin.

#18 Greed - In the room with the statue that spits out fire, you need to rotate it to the far right & have it destroy the statue there. The platform will sink into the ground and you can climb on top of it for this fountain.

#19 Anger - Shift the movable box to the right and use it to climb to the platform with the fountain on.

#20 Anger - After you fight on the large circle platform, just jump onto the ledge in front of you and the fountain will be there.

#21 Anger - On a ledge just to the right of Virgil.

#22 Heresy - In the small hallway with the flame that appears after the beast flicks a switch. Ignore the fountains and run up to him first otherwise the fire will kill you. Defeat him, flick the switch and walk back down to claim your coin.

#23 Heresy - Just to the right of the next movable box. Hard to miss.

#24 Heresy - Jump on top of the moving platforms to another alcove with a demon dog and a fountain. It is on the right side of the screen.

#25 Heresy - Just before you enter the section of the game where the icicles drop from above there are two fountains side by side to the right of the screen. Just in front of the fountains is a skeletal ladder - Simply climb down it for this coin.

#26 Violence - Move along the rope, past the bull head and you’ll see a shade and a demon dog. The fountain is just to the left of them.

#27 Violence - On the second platform which has waves of fire, drop down the left side for the fountain. It’s hard to miss and is in front of the climbable wall you need to use for the relic.

#28 Violence - After you cross the river it’s on a raised platform to the left. Make sure you don’t go past the save point and it’s a point of no return!

#29 Violence - On top of the destroyed tower in the sandy area. Right next to a shade you need to absolve.

#30 Violence - On a raised platform on the right side of the road.

Helpful Tips

- There are 50 waves of enemies in The Gates of Hell Arena. Just change the setting to “easy” and then hit the enemies with your Holy Cross blast repeatedly.

- When fighting large Lucifer boss at the end, just spam your Holy Cross attack as this is what damages him the most. Forget about hitting him and the other powers, just spam that attack!

- In the trial where you need to keep Dante airborne for 8 seconds, the best technique to use is this (using 360 controls here, you need to convert for PS3) - Grab one of the large demons with RT and then quickly hit Y, RT, Y, RT, Y, RT… etc until you pass the trial.

- The mirror maze is actually easier than it looks. There are four fountains to get. The  first is at the top of the screen, the second is at the bottom and the third is to the far right in the middle and the last is the far right on the bottom. To get to the top one you need to get to the middle platform on the bottom and go to the far right to climb the wall - Head up to the top for the first fountain, and then get back on the wall and head to the far right to get the third fountain. After this just flick the switch for the platform to appear in the middle of the screen and jump across for the second fountain. The final one (which has the stone in) can be done by dropping onto the moving platform and then jumping to the right lower platform quickly as it lowers down the middle of the screen. If you wait too long it will take you out of the area and you wont be able to go back.
